New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church

Connecting People to God Through Love and Fellowship

Church Organization

The church is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) which is divided into smaller geographical units called Synods and even smaller divisions called Presbyteries. New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church is a part of the Synod of the Trinity and the Kiskiminetas Presbytery. The Presbytery helps provide guidance with programming and helps provide ministers and speakers when there is a need, among other functions.  Within the local church, the governance of the church is as follows:

Deacons, Elders and Trustees

Members are nominated to serve as officers by a nominating committee that is elected at the annual congregational meeting held in January.  The Nominating Committee is composed of 2 Elders, a Deacon and 4 members from the congregation. New officers are elected in December with a term beginning in January.

Elders serve on the Session and are responsible for governance of the Church.  12 Elders are elected for 3-year terms in groups of 4.   Elders elect a Clerk of Session who is responsible for taking minutes of Session or congregational meetings, ensuring that a quorum is present and providing required reports to the Presbytery. Elders meet monthly on the 4th Tuesday, except July, at 6:30 PM and for special meetings as needed.

The Elders elect 3 Trustees from among the Session to handle legal and corporate matters as required under state law.

Deacons care for members in a number of ways, including visitation, delivering Sunday flowers, keeping pew racks organized and welcoming new members of the community.  9 Deacons are elected for 3-year terms in groups of 3.  Deacons sponsor Sundae Sunday to welcome Spring with fellowship, a light lunch and make-your-own ice cream.  Deacons meet monthly except during the Summer and in December on the 3rd Tuesday  at 7 PM.

Pastoral Care - Our  Pastor, the Reverend Cynthia Creighton Dixon, serves as preacher, administrator, counselor and pastoral visitor.  She will be glad to visit or meet with those in need of pastoral care or counseling. Communion is offered to those unable to attend the worship service by the Pastor and Elder or Deacon.
